Team Members:
Prof. Jan Lünemann – Project lead
Jan D. Lünemann is Full Professor of Neurology at the University of Münster, Germany. He is coordinating of one of the largest European Multiple Sclerosis (MS) and Neuroimmunology Outpatient Clinics and Clinical Trial Centers. Dr. Lünemann received his medical degree at Humboldt University and his residency training in the Department of Neurology at the Charité University Hospital, both in Berlin, Germany. He received his postdoctoral training with focus on Cellular Immunology at the U.S. National Institutes of Health (Bethesda, MD) and at the Rockefeller University in New York. Before his tenure in Münster, he was Assistant Professor and Head of the Department of Neuroinflammation at the Institute of Experimental Immunology, University of Zürich, and Senior Consultant at the Departments of Neurology, University Hospitals of Basel and Zürich, Switzerland. Dr. Lünemann received the Human Immunology Award from the Irvington Institute for Immunological Research and the Dana Foundation, New York, and the Siegenthaler Scientific Award for Medical Sciences from the University of Zürich. He is Fellow of the American Neurological Association (ANA) and the European Academy of Neurology (EAN), member of the EAN Scientific Panels on MS and Neuroimmunology and Co-Chair of the German Task Force for Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation and Cell-Based Therapies in MS. His research focuses on understanding the immunology and improving immunotherapies for people with MS and other autoimmune diseases.
Malina Behrens, Msc – PhD Student
Malina Behrens is a Phd student in Prof. Lünemann’s group since Autumn 2023 and will work on the analysis of EBV patient samples.
Dr. Leonie Schittenhelm – Project Coordinator
Leonie Schittenhelm is Project Coordinator in Prof. Lünemann’s group and supports the team in regards to planning, budgeting and successfully carrying out the tasks set out as part of BEHIND-MS
